Trump’s “Super Intelligence” Push Sends Slovenia’s .SI Domain Demand Soaring
Slovenia’s national domain registry reported a dramatic September increase in .si registrations after Donald Trump began promoting “Super Intelligence” as the new term for AI.

Demand for Slovenia’s .si internet domain has surged following President Donald Trump’s campaign to replace the term “artificial intelligence” with “Super Intelligence,” or “SI.”
The White House formally adopted the terminology on September 29, 2026, when Trump signed an executive order directing U.S. executive departments and agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” instead of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in official correspondence, websites, reports, policy documents and other non-statutory communications.
The timing has coincided with a sharp increase in registrations for Slovenia’s country-code domain. Register.si spokesperson Klara Herman told the BBC that about 44,000 .si addresses were registered during September, compared with fewer than 2,000 in August, representing an increase of roughly 2,199%. Herman described the activity in late September as unprecedented compared with the previous year.
.SI Domain Registrations Jump After Trump’s SI Push
September 30 was particularly busy for the Slovenian registry, with about 11,000 new .si registrations recorded in a single day, according to Herman. She has also cautioned against attributing the entire increase to Trump’s terminology change alone.
The connection between the domain and the technology sector is straightforward: “.si” is Slovenia’s country-code top-level domain, while “SI” is the abbreviation the Trump administration is now using for “Super Intelligence.”
Register.si is the official registry for Slovenia’s .si domain space. Its website says there were more than 219,000 registered .si domains when its statistics page was recently updated, with registrations handled through a network of registrars rather than directly by the registry itself.
Trump first promoted the terminology change during his September 22 address to the United Nations General Assembly, where he argued that the word “artificial” made the technology sound less authentic.
“The use of the word ‘artificial’ makes it sound fake,” Trump said. “It is not fake, it is actually fantastic.”
His later executive order went further, stating that the capabilities of modern frontier systems increasingly represent “not merely artificial intelligence, but a new era of Super Intelligence.”
Hostinger Reports Growing Interest In .SI Domains
The spike has also been visible among domain providers, although the scale differs from one platform to another.
Hostinger said it began offering .si registrations on September 23, shortly after Trump’s UN remarks. The company’s head of domains, Klaudijus Januitis, said most of the orders were new registrations rather than transfers from existing providers.
“Nearly all of our .si orders are new registrations, not transfers from other providers,” Januitis said. “People aren’t moving existing websites. They’re claiming new names while the good ones are still available.”
According to the figures supplied in the original reporting, Hostinger saw thousands of .si registrations from customers on September 30 and October 1, with buyers in the United States and India accounting for a substantial share of the activity.
Not every hosting company has reported the same pattern. The supplied reporting said Wix was not seeing a “meaningful uptick” in .si registrations and described activity on its platform as minimal at that point.
Businesses And Domain Speculators Move Quickly
The new interest is not limited to companies building artificial-intelligence products. Some businesses are acquiring .si versions of existing brand names, while others appear to be securing domains speculatively in anticipation of higher future demand.
Kim Than, CEO of Genius PR, said he purchased the .si version of his company name as a precaution.
“I already bought the .si version of my company name ‘to protect the brand in case this takes off like .ai.’”
Than said the relatively low registration cost made the decision easier.
He also described domain names as digital collectibles and said he was considering acquiring additional .si addresses while prices remain relatively low.
“A few founder friends are buying too cause we think it’s the new AI boom,” he continued. “Who knows how far it goes, but I’m happy to take a bet.”
Speculative registrations are a recognized part of domain markets, where buyers sometimes register names they believe could become more valuable and potentially sell them later. Reporting on the current .si surge has identified this as one possible factor behind the increase.
Can .SI Become A Major Technology Domain?
Whether the surge develops into a lasting technology-domain trend remains uncertain.
Januitis said he expects interest in .si to continue increasing but does not expect it to replace .ai in the near term. Instead, he described .si as a more readily available and “more affordable second option” for technology-related businesses and founders.
“Slovenia will not see what Anguilla saw,” Januitis said, pointing to differences in how the two domains generate revenue.

Hostinger currently advertises .si registrations at a lower price than .ai. Foreign Policy reported that Hostinger was offering .si for $11.99 for the first year and $16.99 thereafter, while .ai was being offered at $89.99 initially and $109.99 afterward.
“For Anguilla, .ai became a second economy. For Slovenia, .si is a nice bonus.”
For now, Slovenia’s national domain has found itself at the center of an unexpected technology-driven registration boom. The White House order has formalized the use of “SI” across the U.S. executive branch, while registrars and businesses are responding to the possibility that the acronym could gain broader commercial recognition.
