Sam Altman is once again encouraging parents to incorporate ChatGPT into their daily routines, this time suggesting the AI assistant could help make school commutes more informative by generating personalized audio briefings for families.

On Friday, the OpenAI CEO described what he called a "cool use case" for the company's new ChatGPT Work product. He suggested parents could connect their family calendars and provide details about their children's interests, allowing ChatGPT to create a customized morning podcast covering upcoming events and other updates.

Altman wrote that parents could "connect your family calendars and explain your kids’ interests" to ChatGPT Work, then "every morning for the drive to school, have it make a podcast that talks about one kid’s soccer game that afternoon, one kid’s upcoming birthday, some news, etc."

Sam Altman's Parenting Suggestion Draws Viral Social Media Response

The proposal quickly generated reactions across social media, with one of the most widely shared responses coming from Alex Hirsch, creator of the animated series Gravity Falls.

Hirsch replied simply: "What if you just talked to your children"?

His response gained significantly more traction than Altman's original post. As of Saturday morning, Altman's post had been reposted roughly 300 times and received about 9,600 likes, while Hirsch's reply had been reposted around 9,000 times and accumulated approximately 122,000 likes.

OpenAI Continues Expanding AI Tools For Families

Altman's latest comments are consistent with previous remarks he has made about using ChatGPT in parenting. During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, he said, "I cannot imagine having gone through figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT." He also added, "Clearly, people did it for a long time, no problem."

The discussion also follows a broader trend among technology companies promoting AI assistants for everyday activities.

OpenAI also appears to be increasing its focus on family-oriented products. The company recently advertised a product manager position seeking someone with experience developing trust-sensitive consumer experiences for parents and families. Meanwhile, Meta is testing an AI-powered application designed to generate bedtime stories.

OpenAI Faces Legal Challenges While Expanding Consumer AI

As OpenAI develops new family-focused features and parental safety tools, the company is also dealing with multiple lawsuits filed by parents and families.

The lawsuits allege that ChatGPT contributed to loved ones' delusions and suicides. In response, OpenAI has said it is "continuously improving how our models respond in sensitive interactions."
