Apple says Live Translation is available in select languages and regions and requires a compatible Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone.

Users can activate Live Translation and hear translated speech through the earbuds, while the iPhone can display translated text during the conversation. Compatible AirPods can also be used for hands-free back-and-forth conversations when both participants have supported devices.

Battery Life Depends On Which AirPods 5 You Buy

Apple has taken an unusual approach to the AirPods 5 lineup. Both versions include Active Noise Cancellation, but the $129 base model and $149 AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case differ in several important areas.

The $149 model delivers up to five hours of listening time with ANC enabled and up to seven hours with noise control turned off. Apple rates the standard $129 AirPods 5 for up to four hours with ANC and up to six hours without it.

Five minutes in the case can provide around one hour of listening time on either version.

The more expensive model also supports wireless charging using an Apple Watch charger or Qi-compatible charger, in addition to USB-C. Its stems include swipe-based volume controls, another feature missing from the $129 version.

The AirPods 5 serve a different audience. Their open-ear construction is likely to appeal most to people who dislike silicone ear tips or prefer a less isolated fit.

Within that category, Apple has managed to improve both audio quality and noise cancellation without abandoning the design that separates regular AirPods from the Pro lineup.
