Dinoblade Brings Sword-Wielding Dinosaurs To Steam As One Of This Week’s Standout Indie Games
Part of Dinoblade's appeal stems from the internet reaction that helped fuel its popularity. A Reddit discussion about the game's trailer perfectly captured its offbeat charm.

The indie gaming scene continues to deliver inventive experiences, and this week's lineup offers another batch of titles worth exploring. From unconventional action RPGs to notable developments in gaming preservation, there is plenty for players to discover over the weekend.
Among the week's highlights is Dinoblade, an action RPG that embraces an unusual premise by putting players in control of a sword-wielding Spinosaurus. The title joins a growing list of creative indie releases arriving on Steam.
Away from new releases, the video game preservation community also marked a significant milestone. The Video Game History Foundation unveiled an extensive archive of materials from decades of E3, featuring press kits, promotional flyers, panel transcripts, and rare footage from the show's earliest years.
Video Game History Foundation Expands E3 Archive
The newly released collection includes videos from E3's formative years, well before live-streamed press conferences became standard. Among the most notable discoveries is what the foundation describes as the only known footage of Sega's Saturn reveal, alongside Sony's announcement of the original PlayStation's price during E3 1995.
While the archive is not exclusively focused on indie games, it contains references to independent titles alongside broader gaming history. The preservation effort provides a valuable look back at one of the industry's most influential trade events.

"This looks stupid as all f***,"
one user wrote.
Another quickly responded:
"Dude I know right, it's awesome."
The project traces its origins back to 2022, when Jean Nguyen, a senior animator at Sucker Punch, shared a short animation on Twitter/X featuring a Spinosaurus wielding an oversized sword reminiscent of Cloud's iconic weapon from Final Fantasy VII. The clip quickly gained traction online, eventually inspiring Nguyen to turn the concept into a full-fledged game.

In Dinoblade, players take control of the sword-carrying Spinosaurus as it fights to prevent its species from becoming extinct. Along the way, enemy dinosaurs wield their own weapons, while defeated bosses can be summoned to aid players during combat.
Early player impressions suggest the game embraces a rough-around-the-edges style while delivering enjoyable combat. At a time when Soulslike-inspired games continue to flood the market, Dinoblade distinguishes itself through its unconventional premise and distinctive personality.
