Apple iPhone Duo Brings Foldable Design, 7.6-Inch Display And Apple Pencil Support

Apple has officially entered the foldable smartphone market with the iPhone Duo, introducing its first iPhone that opens into a larger display while retaining a conventional screen on the outside.

The device has a 5.4-inch OLED display when closed and expands to a 7.6-inch OLED folding display when opened. Apple says the inner screen is the largest display ever featured on an iPhone, while the outer screen provides 90 percent of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro.

The iPhone Duo uses a titanium foldable design and measures 5.2mm thick when opened. When closed, it measures 11.3mm and weighs 254 grams. Apple has also fitted the device with a precision hinge and IP68 water and dust resistance.

The inner display features a nano-texture finish designed to reduce glare and reflections while making the crease less noticeable. Apple has also placed the FaceTime camera beneath the inner display, allowing the screen to remain uninterrupted when the camera is not being used.

Both displays support ProMotion with adaptive refresh rates of up to 120Hz, Always-On functionality and up to 3,000 nits of outdoor peak brightness. They also use the same aspect ratio, allowing content to scale between the two screens.

The iPhone Duo supports Apple Pencil with USB-C across both displays. Apple says the feature will be available later in 2026, allowing users to take notes, sketch and mark up documents.

iPhone Duo Uses Touch ID And Dual 48MP Cameras

Apple has moved away from Face ID on the iPhone Duo, instead placing Touch ID in the side button. The foldable also has a dedicated camera system designed around its unusual form factor.

On the rear, the iPhone Duo features a 48MP Fusion main camera and a 48MP Ultra Wide camera. Apple says the folding design enables new ways of taking photographs and recording video that are not available on other iPhone models.

The device also supports different positioning options when partially folded, with the hardware and software designed to accommodate the phone's changing orientation.

iOS 27 Adds Multitasking Features For The Foldable iPhone

The iPhone Duo runs iOS 27, which Apple has redesigned to accommodate the larger internal display and the device's foldable form factor.

Multitasking allows users to work with multiple apps on the large screen, including split-screen arrangements and drag-and-drop interactions between applications. The larger display gives the iPhone Duo a more expansive workspace while retaining the portability of an iPhone.

Apple is also bringing Apple Intelligence and Siri AI to the device, alongside the A20 Pro chip and an advanced thermal-management system featuring a custom-designed vapor chamber.

iPhone Duo Price And Release Date

Apple will offer the iPhone Duo in Star White and Night Sky, with storage options ranging from 256GB to 2TB.

The foldable iPhone starts at $1,999 in the United States. Preorders open on October 16, with availability beginning October 23 in more than 70 countries and regions.

Apple has positioned the iPhone Duo as a new category within its smartphone lineup, combining a conventional outer display with a substantially larger folding screen and software designed around the two-screen experience.
