Xiaomi has offered an early look at the Xiaomi 18 Fold during its first major appearance at IFA 2026 in Berlin, signaling its continued commitment to the growing foldable smartphone market.

The device was presented as a display-only preview, preventing attendees from handling it ahead of its full unveiling in China on September 7. Xiaomi has nevertheless released official images and confirmed several important details about the upcoming foldable.

Finished in a striking red color, the Xiaomi 18 Fold adopts a wider format than traditional book-style foldables. It features a 5.38-inch external display and a 7.58-inch internal screen, giving it proportions designed to sit between larger book-style devices and compact flip phones. Android Authority

Xiaomi 18 Fold Features A Wider Dual-Screen Design

The wider layout places the Xiaomi 18 Fold in the same emerging category as devices such as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8. Its external display is designed to provide a more conventional smartphone experience when closed, while the larger internal panel offers additional space for media, productivity and multitasking.

Official images also show a prominent rear camera module carrying Leica branding. Xiaomi has confirmed a three-camera arrangement, although it has not yet released the complete camera specifications.

Other details, including battery capacity, charging speeds, durability ratings and full software features, are expected to be announced during the September 7 launch event.

XRing O3 Chip Will Power Xiaomi’s New Foldable

The Xiaomi 18 Fold will be powered by the company’s in-house XRing O3 system-on-chip, which Xiaomi describes as its “Flagship AI SoC.”

The 3-nanometer processor combines central processing, graphics, imaging and artificial intelligence capabilities within a single chipset. It represents Xiaomi’s latest effort to develop more of the core technology used inside its premium devices instead of relying exclusively on processors supplied by Qualcomm or MediaTek.

Xiaomi has also confirmed that the foldable will use LPDDR6 memory supplied by Chinese chipmaker ChangXin Memory Technologies. The Xiaomi 18 Fold is expected to be among the first smartphones to adopt the newer memory standard. Reuters

Xiaomi Confirms Plans To Bring Its Electric Vehicles To Europe

Xiaomi also used its IFA appearance to showcase the broader “Human × Car × Home” ecosystem connecting its smartphones, smart-home products and electric vehicles.

The company already manufactures several electric vehicles in China, including models in its SU7 and YU7 ranges. Xiaomi has confirmed that it is preparing to enter the European automotive market in 2027, which would mark the international expansion of its EV business.

Its presence at IFA gives European audiences an early look at the company’s automotive technology before commercial sales begin. Xiaomi has not yet announced which countries or vehicle models will be included in the initial European rollout.

The Xiaomi 18 Fold will receive its full launch in China on September 7. Global availability and pricing have not yet been confirmed.
