X Moves All U.S. Creator Payouts To X Money

Elon Musk’s social network X has moved all creator payouts in the United States to X Money, making the platform’s financial service the required payment method for eligible U.S. users.
The change took effect Wednesday, September 2, and covers earnings from creator subscriptions, the Original Content Rewards Program and the outgoing Creator Revenue Sharing Program. Creators outside the United States will continue receiving payments through Stripe.
Creators who already have X Money accounts do not need to take further action. Those who have not enrolled must open an account to access future payouts, according to X’s updated creator documentation.
X Money Becomes Mandatory For U.S. Creator Payments
X said creators will have access to their earnings as soon as payments are sent to their X Money accounts. However, its current support documentation states that Original Content Rewards payments are processed every two weeks and remain subject to a $30 minimum payout.
Under the former arrangement, qualifying creators could connect a Stripe account or use X Money where the service was available. The updated policy makes X Money the only listed payout method for U.S. users, while creators in other supported countries must continue using Stripe.
Each X Money account can be connected to only one X account. X also permits each individual to open only one X Money account, with that restriction linked to the user’s Social Security number.
The payment transition applies to both individuals and businesses participating in X’s monetization programs. X will issue Form 1099-NEC to individual creators receiving eligible payments. Limited liability companies will be asked to provide Form W-9 information so the platform can prepare the appropriate tax documents.
Original Content Rewards Replaces Revenue Sharing
The payment change comes as X prepares to retire its Creator Revenue Sharing Program on September 7. The program stopped accepting new applications on August 7.
Existing members will continue earning through September 7, with a final payment for that period expected around September 11. Beginning September 8, X will roll out applications for its new Original Content Rewards Program to qualifying members of the former system.
The replacement program focuses on content personally written, filmed, designed or produced by a creator. Original reporting, analysis, commentary, photographs, videos, illustrations and other work containing a creator’s own perspective may qualify.
Copied posts, minimally modified material, cross-platform reposts and compilations that do not add a substantial original contribution will not generate qualifying impressions.
Applicants must have an active X Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business subscription, at least 500 verified followers and 500,000 qualifying Home Timeline impressions from verified users during the previous 90 days.
Creator Earnings Can Unlock Higher X Money Rates
Creator payments will count as qualifying deposits for X Money’s boosted annual percentage yield when combined qualifying deposits reach at least $1,000 within a trailing 34-day period.
As of September 2, X Money lists a standard 4% APY for X Premium members, with the rate rising to 6% after meeting the qualifying-deposit requirement. Premium+ members receive a standard 6% APY. The rates are variable and unavailable to New York residents, according to X Money’s official rate information.
X Money also offers a payment card with cash-back rewards, instant money transfers and access to fee-free ATM withdrawals. X is not itself a bank; its stored-value accounts are provided through FDIC-insured Cross River Bank.
The service forms part of Musk’s wider plan to transform X into an “everything app” combining social media, creator monetization and financial services within one platform.
