Netflix Develops Ravenloft Series With Alfonso Cuarón And John August

Netflix is heading into the gothic world of Dungeons & Dragons with Ravenloft, a live-action series centered on one of the franchise’s most recognizable villains.
John August is attached to write and executive produce the project, with Alfonso Cuarón also serving as an executive producer. Hasbro Entertainment is involved in the adaptation, which Deadline reports is in development—not yet a confirmed series order. Deadline
The story will follow Strahd von Zarovich’s transformation into a vampire Darklord. Its premise combines fantasy adventure, gothic horror, and tragic romance, tracing the character’s journey from a troubled antihero into a notorious antagonist.
Ravenloft Will Explore Strahd’s Vampire Origins
Strahd’s backstory will anchor the proposed series, with power, love, and obsession forming part of the announced storyline. Rather than simply presenting him as an established villain, the adaptation will examine how he became one.
August’s announced responsibilities cover both writing and executive production. Cuarón is attached as an executive producer; the reporting does not identify him as the show’s director.
A release date has not been announced, and it remains unclear which specific Ravenloft books or adventures will provide material for the adaptation. Dungeons & Dragons Fanatics

Separately, HBO is developing a Baldur’s Gate television series with Craig Mazin. That project is intended to continue the story after the events of Baldur’s Gate 3, rather than directly retell the game’s plot. Game Informer
